MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University Council of Trustees honored the MU
Concert Choir and the Mansfieldians on Wednesday, September 24. Both ensembles captured gold medals at the World Choir Games held in Graz, Austria in July.
Each ensemble performed in the foyer of North Hall Library as a crowd gathered on the railings above. Then each member was presented with a citation by Council of Trustees President Ralph Meyer. On behalf of the Trustees, he congratulated them on their gold medals and thanked them for the outstanding way that they had represented themselves and Mansfield University.
The Concert Choir, under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler, took the top prize in the spiritual and gospel open category in the World Choir Games.
The Mansfieldians, a select 12-member ensemble of Concert Choir members directed by Sheryl Monkelien, won the first place in the jazz vocal ensemble a cappella category.
The World Choral Games brought together more than 20,000 singers in 441 choirs from 93 countries.
