Trio La Milpa to Perform February 1

January 17, 2014

MANSFIELD, PA— Trio La Milpa will perform in concert on Saturday, Trio La MilpaFebruary 1, 7:30 p.m. at Steadman Theatre.

Comprised of Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Principal Oboist Katherine Needleman, BSO Oboist Michael Lisicky and Peabody Institute Faculty Oboist Sandra Gerster, the double reed trio was recently called “some of Baltimore’s best classical musicians” by the Baltimore Sun.

Trio La Milpa has performed since 2003. Originally serving as the oboe/English horn section of the Richmond Symphony in Virginia, the three colleagues broke away from their orchestral constraints to explore the colorful and varied chamber music written for two oboes and English horn.

The centerpieces of this repertoire are two works by Beethoven, which have inspired composers such as Triebensee, Badings and Koetsier to further exploit this instrumental combination. Committed to diversity of musical styles, La Milpa has performed in equally diverse venues - from traditional formal concert halls to outdoor gardens to inner-city schools.

Admission for the concert is $10. MU students will be admitted free with ID.
