Students Help Blossburg Police Department

  • April 18, 2014

  • MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University Social Work students are creating “Comfort Kits” for the Blossburg Police Department. The kits will be given to children who have recently been in a traumatic situation that required a police officer to respond.

“The kits will allow officers the opportunity to follow-up with a child to see how theystuffedanimal are coping after a police visit to their home,” MU student Jackie Smith said. “The officer will use the kit as a tool to open lines of communication with the child.”

The kits will include a small stuffed toy, coloring book, colored pencils and age appropriate fact sheets explaining why an officer may need to visit a child’s home.

Donations of items that can be used in the kits or monetary donations to acquire items are being accepted.

For more information, or to arrange a donation drop-off, email smithjm14@mounites.mansfield.edu

The students involved in the project are from Assistant Professor Mary Daly’s Community & Organizations class.
